The second installment of the "Gaming The System" series, by breakout author Brenna Aubrey, "At Any Turn", begins with sexy, gaming mogul Adam Drake finishing up his month long trek on the grueling Pacific Crest Trail. After weeks of solace, unplugged and away from his company, he knows he is ready for the next big step - marriage--now that he's at the top of his own game and confessed his enigmas to the newfound love of his life, Mia Strong. Mia, who sold her virginity to Adam in an online auction to raise money for medical school and pay a mountain of debts in Book 1, has lots of choices to make as well. And though her love for Adam is all encompassing, can she really forgo her lifelong dream of medical school at Johns Hopkins-- all the way across the country? What is she thinking? Everyone knows long distance relationships rarely survive.
And just when all the pieces seem to be falling into place, why has Mia become so secretive? Not usually the best with people skills, Adam is perceptive enough to know something is wrong. "We were in alien, distant territory now and I had no idea how we'd find our way back home. Back into each other's arms. Not until all the secrets were cleared between us. And wasn't that ironic, when our whole relationship had been founded on secrets - huge secrets- all by my own doing? I didn't believe in karma, but if I did, this would be one of those moments where I'd be cursing it, because it was now biting me on the ass." Not knowing the cause of Mia's uncharacteristic and sudden retreat, coupled with her unwillingness to share, makes Adam paranoid and suspicious. And we all know, nothing good ever comes from those two traits.
"At Any Turn", told from Adam's point of view, really made me feel his frustration. "Maybe she was just too immature, too much of a coward. Just too young, like Jordan and Lindsay had said. She wasn't in the same place I was because she couldn't be. That thought dug into my gut, hurting most of all because there was no way in hell I had any control over it." And yet, he knows Mia needs his help but quickly learns that attempting to solve the problem with his checkbook, only makes things worse. But hang on until the end--all will be revealed as there is a valid, understandable reason. All the clues were there all along!
Sprinkled with tender moments --and some steamy love scenes -Brenna Aubrey's second installment, "At Any Turn", is a smart, sensual, compelling read. Although darker than "At Any Price", there are still several clever, snort-worthy laughs. The turn of events was not at all what I was expecting. But I think it's that all-too-real, broadside blow that makes this series not just your average "Fifty Shades" pastiche. I can hardly wait for book 3.

I was given a copy of this book from the author for a honest review.
These are the types of reviews I hate to leave. The first book in the series was so good that I'm shocked by how bad book two was. First based on the plot and how the story was delivered, this should have been a novella. The story would also have benefited greatly if we had been given dual POVs. Trust was basis for this story. The issues Mia stressed over were not big of issues that should justify her actions. I wanted he...

First based on the plot and how the story was delivered, this should have been a novella. The story would also have benefited greatly if we had been given dual POVs. Trust was basis for this story. The issues Mia stressed over were not big of issues that should justify her actions. I wanted her POV to understand. Adam does make poor decisions, but not ones that should cause Mia to run like she always did!!!! As the story progressed, they book became so childess. I don't understand why Mia was so dramatic and wanted to be so independent.
I almost stopped this book so many times due to being bored and how long it took to get to the point, which doesn't even happen til the end with a cliffhanger!!!!! But since I was given the book for a review, I felt like I had to finish it.
I'm puzzled why the secret was so drawn out?? To get another book in the series? And there was filler!!!! Filler is one of my pet peeves!!!
I will not continue this series.

This. Book. Freaking. Slayed. Me.
I'm talking shredded me to pieces over and over again. To the point where I wasn't sure if I could keep going, wasn't sure my heart could take it. Holy angst, Batman! So intense and so d*mn heartbreaking! But I couldn't stop because I really do love this couple, and I was rooting for them so hard. Still am. Part of me is dying to start the next book, but part of me isn't sure my frayed and fragile feelings can handle it. I'm emotionally wrecked and on the...

I'm emotionally wrecked and on the edge of my seat over what the future holds for Adam and Mia.
If you like super angsty love stories and don't mind that there's a cliffhanger (the next book is out so no worries about being left hanging), this book is totally for you. Be sure to read book 1 first. 1. Because it's a good book, and 2. Because it sets everything up for this book.
I'm just gonna go try to mentally prepare myself for book 3 and pray the author had mercy on me when she wrote it.

Me, like the rest of the readers struggling to understand Mia and her secrecy. Because this is Adam's POV, there was not much to go on. I had a hunch about what was happening but I myself do not understand the issue at hand. Mia was withdrawing and every time she would try to open up, it seems, even how important the conversation would be or what direction it would take, she just couldn't say it. Adam from the beginning of this book started to be obsessively in control but over all obsessive over Emilia. Man did this guy have a million things running through his mind and YET as smart as he is, still can't figure out what's wrong with Emilia. There would be times when she'd show how much she cared and her attraction to him didn't fade but guarded. She pushed herself away, from everyone, even her mother. It had to be something big, something that had to do with her and not entirely because of Adam. Sure they have couples issues but the biggest was TRUST and trust had to be earned through both parties and because they both had big secrets that shaped their decisions it was hard for them to be an "us" entity. Gosh I hope Emilia makes the right decisions and go through everything either with or without Adam by her side. I do feel pity towards Adam but his certainty, determination and caring ness just tells you not only is he also a HOT multi-millionaire geek but a guy worth having.
A side note for the author: I love how this book, even though it has its handfuls of adult rated scenes, words, descriptions and anything in the exotic mixing,.. What I love the most is its a story. A story with unexpected characters, backgrounds, character roots and not full of hair-pulling typical drama but a page turner that either had me smiling, giggling, confused, mad, and reaching for my box of tissue, ITS A STORY worth reading.
On to the next book and the conclusion we are all on the end of our seats to find out. Happy Reading!
